View the Asian Heritage Exhibit’s collection of historic
photos and news items about Oregon’s forgotten Asian
pioneers. See exhibits about early Asian loggers and farmers. Learn about a 1911 colony of Japanese near Eugene and the shameful Ping Yang School bombing in Marcola.

Did you know that one of our most famous Oregonians
(known outside of Oregon) was Bhagat Singh Thind? He helped plan India’s rebellion against Britain from Astoria. Did you know that men from Hawaii and Tahiti were at Fort Umpqua in 1836? Or, why Eastern Oregon has so many places named “Owyhee”?

Meet Oregon author Gregory Nokes, who wrote Massacred for Gold, about the horrific murders of Chinese gold miners. Also Ted Cox, author of The Toledo Incident, will discuss a successful 1925 lawsuit after Asian workers on the Oregon Coast were attacked by a mob led by ... the sheriff’s wife!
